Mazurier places in the top 100 in five of six events

COLE BAY--Carib Swim Team athlete Morghane Mazurier represented the Friendly Island at the Sixth Trophy Lucien-Zins for 12 to 13 year olds in Dijon, France over the weekend.Mazurier swam six events in four separate sessions spread out over two days against the top 160 athletes from France,
Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion, Tahiti and New Caledonia.
Mazurier competed in the backstroke, fly and breast stroke at a distance of 50 meters, freestyle at both 100 and 400 meters and the 200 meter individual medley (IM). The Carib swimmer finished in the top 100 in five events, of which three were top 50s.
In two of her swims she finished in the top eight. Mazurier was outstanding in the backstroke, with an excellent take off and a strong finish to finish eighth.
Originally placed at 37th in the fly with a time of 34:70, she climbed to seventh with a time of 33:42.
Mazurier also had a very strong performance in the IM, moving up the standings from 147th with a time of 2:56.65 and to 46th at 2:43.56.
"Morghane was very impressed by the facilities," said Sylvia Cloose from the Carib Swim Team.
The venue featured a new 50 meter pool, a 25 meter warm up pool and a high dive pool. The complex was located in the country side, with other sports facilities near by.
Cloose continued, "although she was a little taken by the temperature of the water she adjusted well," despite the fact the pool was indoors.

The A-Team beat out St Dominic High School A by eight points. Just two points back in third place was Learning Unlimited.
Seven secondary schools participated in the competition, including Milton Peters College, St. Dominic School, and Learning Unlimited School, each with two teams, and for the first time Sundial School with one team.
Milton Peters A dominated the pool in the early events and build a sufficient advantage to avoid being caught by the other teams.
LU and St. Dominic turned in impressive performances in the relay races. The relay for the students in which all eight swimmers of each team raced was won by the Learning Unlimited A-team. St. Dominic A was second and Milton Peters College A-team third.
In the relay for the adults Learning Unlimited A-team was again first, in front of Learning Unlimited B-team and St. Dominic School A third.
The throphy for best supporters went to St. Dominic High School team who livened up the whole pool with their African drums and songs.

COLE BAY--Six members of the Carib Swim Team competed in the Sun Kissed Junior/Senior Swimming Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Representing St. Maarten were Harry Antrobus, Benjamin Justine, Jolyon Ferron, Matthias Reilten, Stephen Looser and Steven Cloose.
The athletes all performed great in front of a packed crowd, swimming personal bests and moving up in the rankings throughout the meet. Everyone dropped more than one second in at least 1 event with 75 percent of all their swims being personal bests.
There were 6 swims in which a swimmer dropped 10 seconds or more off their best time, highlighted by Jolyon Ferron dropping 20 seconds or more in both the 200 fly and 400 IM.
Steven Cloose made it to finals in the Junior in the 100 Fly and finished 11th in 500 free, and Stephen Looser made second alternate in the Senior 200 fly finishing 20th.
More than 650 swimmers from all over the United States and Caribbean competed in the meet that was split into 2 groups.
The younger swimmers competed in the Juniors group, 13 and under. The Senior division was 14 and older. The host facility is a 1000 seat natatorium, which hosts meets that attracts the likes of Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. For all but Reilten this was first meet the athletes swam in a yards pool, and in the USA.
Three other Swim Team members, Kelia Serramoglia, Morghane Mazurier, and Che Sheldon Charlemagne will compete in the CARIFTA Games in Jamaica.






COLE BAY--Carib Swim Team won their Fall Classic Swim Meet. Three teams plus four unattached swimmers comprising 102 athletes raced. Teams racing were St. Barths, Super Splash and host Carib. On the women's side Carib Swim Team finished with 1,102 points, St. Barths had 652 points, and Super Splash ended with 305 points.
On the Men's side Carib Swim Team finished with 1,316 points, St. Barths had 676 points and Super Splash finished with 95 points.
Carib Swim Team took first overall with 2,418 points. St. Barths finished second with 1,328 points, and Super Splash had 400 points.
On the way to victory, Carib athletes set 155 personal best times out of 183 swims. A total of 15 new team records were set.
Stephen Looser broke the team record for the 15-year-old 200 free by 5.5 seconds and the 100 fly by over 4 seconds.
Jolyon Ferron and Valentin Walter both swam under the previous 14-year-old 100 fly record with Ferron edging out Walter by 3 tenths of a second.
Steven Cloose crushed the previous 400 individual medley for 13-year-olds record by more than 34 seconds. The 400 individual medley is 100 butterfly, then 100 backstroke, then 100 breaststroke, and finally 100 freestyle.
Matthias Reltien and Aba Coombs both broke the records for 11-year-olds in the 400 individual medley 100 back and 200 free.
Naomi Korstanje broke the 400 individual medley for 16-year-olds and Kelia Serramoglia broke the 400 Individual Medley record by more than 2 seconds for 14-year-old girls.
Mara Reltien broke the team records for 13-year-olds in 400 individual medley by more than 6 seconds, the 100 fly by more than 3 seconds, and edged out the 200 free and 100 back both by a little over 3 tenths of a second.
There were also 18 swimmers who were participating in their first meet.
The Carib team won 42 gold medals, 32 silver medals, and 20 bronze medals.

Carib girl's team win Super Splash Meet

LOWLANDS--The girls from the Carib Swim Team took top honours in the Super Splash Invitational Swim Meet 2010. Five clubs competed in the two-day event which finished Sunday, during which 90 events were held in the Caribbean International Academy (CIA) pool.
Swimmers ranged in age from six to 47. Second place went to the boys of the Carib Swim Team and the St. Croix Dolphins finished third. Also competing were Statia Stingrays, Lab Sports Academy and Super Splash Swim Team.
The competition was divided into age brackets. Winning the 8 and under division in the girls group was Gili Arava and for the boys was Joep Jeroen Vroegop.
Johanna Looser took top honours in the 9 to 10 girls' division while Hensley Hubert was the top boy.
The winner by the girls 11 and 12 was Morghane Mazurier. Abayomi Coombs was first in the boys'.
Mara Reltien finished first in the 13 and 14 division for the girls and Jolyon Ferron won the boys' division.
The winner by the girls 15 and over was Lea Lerchundi and Harry Antrobus was first for the boys.
